I am wondering if there are any foods I can eat to support my kidneys, and if there are any foods I should avoid?
The kidneys are one of our main detoxification organs, along with the liver and intestines, and to a lesser extent the lungs, and skin. Its main functions include filtering the blood, eliminating water-soluble waste, and maintaining the acid-alkaline and electrolyte balance of the blood. When the liver is not able to keep up with detoxification, the kidneys then have to work harder to help eliminate toxins from the body.
Signs and symptoms of imbalanced kidneys include: kidney stones, incontinence, urinary tract infections, increased urinary frequency, *hematuria (blood in urine), *proteinuria (protein in urine), *edema, *hypertension, *uremia (accumulation of urea), and inflammation of the kidneys.
The kidneys can be strengthened and supported in a number of ways; however, some of the conditions mentioned above do require *immediate medical attention.
